Travis Kelce gets pretty emotional about things that he feels passionately about. Unfortunately, that’s resulted in a number of blowups on the football field that have included yelling, shoving and more.
While he’s kept his cool around girlfriend Taylor Swift, fans were shocked when Travis began screaming at Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid during the 2024 Super Bowl, even making physical contact with his boss.
Fortunately for the athlete, Andy was more forgiving than some viewers who thought Travis should have been suspended for his actions. “He loves to play the game and he wants to help his team win, and it’s not a selfish thing,” the coach said after the team won their fourth Super Bowl title. It wasn’t the first time nor was it the last that Travis’ temper got the better of him.
TRAINING CAMP TIRADE
The pressure of being the defending Super Bowl champs appeared to already be on Travis’ mind as he lost his cool on teammate George Karlaftis at the Chiefs’ training camp on July 24, 2024.
After George laid a hard hit on wide receiver Kadarius Toney and sent him into the ground during a drill, Travis ran over and got in the defensive end’s face before giving him a shove. Unlike in 2023’s training camp, the dispute was quickly settled without incident.
SUPER BOWL MELTDOWN
Football’s biggest game brought out the best and the worst in Travis when the Chiefs squared off against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024.
As the Chiefs trailed in the second quarter and fumbled the ball, Travis lost it on the sidelines and took it out on Coach Reid, presumably for not putting him in the game for the botched play. The tight end got up in his coach’s face and was seen screaming and appeared to slightly shove the squad’s leader.
After the Chiefs won the game in overtime, Andy told reporters Travis got caught up in the extremely “emotional” day.
“You know, he bumps into me, I get after him, and we understand that. He just caught me off balance,” he explained.
Travis never revealed exactly why he yelled at Andy, telling ESPN’s Booger McFarland, “Man, I’m gonna keep it between us. I was just telling him how much I love him,” while brushing off the incident.
