Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark was one of the most highly anticipated players in WNBA history, as she dominated in her time in the NCAA. That said, she naturally had unbelievably high expectations entering the league as the No. 1 overall pick, which can take a toll on players.
Even so, she pushed through her struggles and had one of the best rookie seasons in the league’s history. Friday afternoon she was named the Player of the Month for September, marking her fourth time of the season achieving this feat.
Outside of this incredible accomplishment, she’s broken records almost more times than can count, and has put on display why she deserves to be the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year. In fact, she’s been so good this season that she’s even landed a comparison to LeBron James, though it may not be for the reason one would think.
Strangely enough, Clark and James perfectly align with leading stats on their respective teams, as well as Aliyah Boston and Anthony Davis. Clark and James both led their teams in scoring, assists, and steals, while Boston and Davis led their teams in rebounds and blocks.
Not only does this display a near perfect pairing for each team, but it highlights the impact Clark has had on the Fever. James finished the 2023-24 season with the Lakers averaging 25.5 PPG, 8.3 APG, and 1.3 STL in 35.3 minutes per game.
While Clark finished with roughly six less points per contest, she beat out James in assists with 8.4, and matched him in steals with 1.3. She also did so in 35.4 minutes per game.
It’s incredible not only how similar their stats were, but that Clark has had a LeBron James level impact on the Fever in just her rookie season. There is no limit on how far she’ll be able to go in the WNBA as she’s only getting started. Hopefully this first playoff run can be the beginning of a legendary postseason career for her as well.
