Simone Biles makes a plea to fans after they attacked her for wearing a Packers jacket at Soldier Field.
After Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens received an excused absence training camp to cheer on his wife, Simone Biles, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the most-decorated gymnast in U.S. history is returning the favor.
Biles arrived at Solider Field on August 17 to watch the Bears take on the Cincinnati Bengals in their second preseason game. To show her support, Biles rocked a custom black-and-white jacket that featured highlights of Owens’ tenure with the Green Bay Packers, his former team. Owens, who spent just one season with Packers, signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract with Chicago as a free agent in March.
While Biles was cheering for the Bears on Saturday, some fans didn’t appreciate her wearing a jacket that clearly showed the logo of Packers, their NFC North rival. After getting attacked online, the seven-time gold medalist addressed the intense backlash on Threads.
“it’s okay to let up off my neck every once in a while,” she posted, which received a ton support on the social media app.
One fan replied, “As a life long bears fan, I’m ecstatic to have you here and was obsessed with your jacket. Rep your man ⬇️.” Another person wrote, “You do you! Too many brads and chads worrying about your Jonathon jacket. Love the way you and Jonathon support each other .”
The uproar over Biles’ jacket exploded on X one day prior. Barstool Sports’ Mike Balice posted a video of the seven-time gold medalist walking onto Soldier Field and wrote, “Simone Biles should be stripped of all her medals after wearing Packers gear while cheering for the Bears. Yeah yeah I get it, her husband played for the packers and it’s an Owens themed jacket, but this is just wrong.”
