Danielle Collins was dumped out of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by Iga Swiatek, but she was left incensed by the world number one as she accused her of not respecting her in a three-set duel.

The Polish tennis player defeated the American 6-1, 2-6, 4-1 to take her place in the semifinals of the women’s singles on the French clay in the City of Love, but it was not without controversy as Collins’ tempers began to boil over.

The 30-year-old, who won the 2024 Miami Open, accused Swiatek of using a shot to the stomach to take advantage for an unclear reason.

“I told Iga she didn’t have to be insincere about my injury,” Collins told the media, as per the New York Post. “There’s a lot that happens on camera, and there are a lot of people with a ton of charisma and come out and are one way on camera and another way in the locker room.

“And I just haven’t had the best experience, and I don’t really feel like anybody needs to be insincere. They can be the way that they are. I can accept that, and I don’t need the fakeness.”

Collins was also spotted cussing her out when Swiatek made sure the American halted her serve and cited crowd interference, which annoy the world number eight as she said that she should play at the server’s pace under her breath, feeling Swiatek’s gamesmanship was not fair.

Clearly the rest of the match did little to cool her head in the Parisian heat as she also exchanged heated words to Swiatek by the net after she withdrew on grounds of dehydration.

Collins hits out at Parisian water
Through her anger, the game began to slip away from Collins in the final set as the world number one raced into a 4-1 lead to leave herself two games away from progressing to the semi-final as Collins’ defeat seemed inevitable.

As a result, the American cited rehydration and called an end to her afternoon early to bring her attempt for a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games to a close as she lashed out at the event organizations for failing to supply enough water.
